If you love hiking and great adventures, we’re sure this tour is for you. Our journey begins in the legendary Sacred Valley, where you’ll experience Andean culture firsthand. We’ll visit local markets where you can purchase local artisans and traditional dishes. We’ll then walk part of the Inca Trail to the ruins of Wiñay Wayña (Forever Young), a place from which you can take spectacular photos. Once in Machu Picchu, we’ll enjoy a guided tour where you’ll learn the mysteries of this architectural gem. Finally, we’ll return to Cusco. On the last day, we’ll conclude this tour with a flourish, hiking to Rainbow Mountain.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO CUSCO

Our select staff will welcome you upon arrival. Once you’re settled into your hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax or explore on your own. We recommend using this day to acclimatize to Cusco’s climate. Cusco isn’t a large city, so walking will allow you to easily navigate the historic center and explore the city’s most traditional streets. You’ll find a variety of places to buy handcrafted souvenirs and enjoy the local cuisine.

DAY 2: SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS (Pisac + Moray + Salt mines + Ollantaytambo)
  • Tour starts at 7:30 a.m., when your guide picks you up from your hotel in Cusco in our private van.
  • Drive to Pisac in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
  • Brief stop at the Taray Lookout to enjoy sweeping views of the Urubamba Valley and its traditional farming villages.
  • Pisac Archaeological Center (2 hours): we will observe more than 2,000 Inca tombs, explore a tunnel, and explore the religious area.
  • Visit to the traditional market of Pisac (20 minutes) .
  • Lunch in the town of Urubamba.
  • Visit to the Moray archaeological center, better known as the Inca agricultural laboratory or greenhouse.
  • Visit to the village of Maras, where we will observe the pre-Inca salt mines. This is one of the few places in the world where you can find natural pink salt!-
  • Visit to Ollantaytambo, with a guided tour and a visit to the Temple of the Sun at the top of the terraces.
  • Rest at your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

  • There are no 4* hotels in Ollantaytambo
DAY 3: OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 104 – WIÑAY HUAYNA – SUN GATE – MACHU PICCHU
  • We’ll begin this exciting day early; your guide will escort you from your hotel at 5:30 a.m.
  • Departure from the train from Ollantaytambo at 6:10 a.m. (approximately 1 hour)
  • Start of the hike at the famous kilometer 104, 6,560 feet above sea level. After crossing the Urubamba River via a picturesque pedestrian bridge, you’ll show your passport at the checkpoint and visit your first nearby Inca site. The first hour and a half is a gentle climb. Along the way, you’ll stop at several viewpoints with panoramic views of the Urubamba River.
  • Visit Wiñay Wayna (2,600 m/8,500 ft above sea level). These incredible Inca ruins have a fascinating history, and some parts are still hidden by the dense jungle. 
  • Lunch in a shelter at the Wiñay Wayna campsite, which is the final camp for those trekking the Classic Inca Trail. –
  • A mostly flat hike to the Sun Gate, from where you’ll have your first view of Machu Picchu. The final stretch features steep stairs carved into the rock.
  • We’ll arrive at the Machu Picchu archaeological site in the afternoon, when it begins to empty out of tourists, where we can take advantage of the opportunity to take some spectacular photos and enjoy the sunset in this magical place. 
  • Descent to the town of Aguas Calientes
  • Check-in and dinner at your hotel.
  • Free time to explore the town of Aguas Calientes, where you can take the opportunity to completely relax in the hot springs.

***You will leave an overnight bag at the Ollantaytambo train station to be sent by train directly to Aguas Calientes.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
  • Early breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Ascent to Machu Picchu at 6:00 am by bus to witness the sunrise. 
  • Guided tour of Machu Picchu (approximately 2 hours). You will see many of the most important parts of the Machu Picchu Citadel. 
  • After the tour, those who have pre-booked the additional hikes to Huayna Picchu Mountain will have time to enjoy the views independently. 
  • Bus return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on your train departure time, you may also have time for shopping, sightseeing, or visiting the museum or hot springs. The Vistadome train will take you back to Ollantaytambo at 3:20, 4:22, 4:43, or 6:20 pm, following the spectacular Urubamba River. Near Aguas Calientes, the canyon is narrow and the river has beautiful whitewater stretches. You can also see Wiñay Wayna from the train if you look up at the steep canyon wall! On your return to Ollantaytambo, your driver will meet you outside the train station and take you back to your hotel in Cusco in our private vehicle. Your arrival at your hotel is scheduled between 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Note: During the rainy season, from January to April, the Vistadome train only arrives at the Ollantaytambo station. We will transfer you from Ollantaytambo to your hotel in Cusco.

***IMPORTANT:

  •  On the 2-day Inca Trail, we will be doing the circuit #3 and there is no way to do another circuit unless you buy an additional entrance to Machu Picchu.
  • Early trains can be organized by requested and it has to be done by booking time.
DAY 5: CUSCO – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – CUSCO
  • Pick up from your hotel at 4 a.m. 
  • Tour of the southern valley, approximately 3 hours.
  • Start of the Llacto hike. We’ll enjoy views of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain and the Andean glaciers. 
  • After a total hike of an hour and a half, we finally reach our destination, Rainbow Mountain. 
  • 30 minutes for free exploration or to take great photos. 
  • There is an optional hike to the top of the Red Valley. This hike takes approximately 45 minutes to return to the trailhead. At this point, we will descend along the same path. The hike lasts an hour, and then we will enjoy lunch prepared by our cook. We will return to Cusco on a 3-hour drive. We will drop you off at your hotel, arriving around 6:30 p.m.
